The Oklahoma Aerospace Industry Partners are recruiting 100 teachers to
become 2008 Aerospace Fellows
Oklahoma teachers (Grades 3-12) and school counselors from public, private and career tech schools are eligible to apply for the first class of Oklahoma Aerospace Education Fellows, with the opportunity to attend the 2008 Aerospace Education & Training Day. The reception and full day of aerospace information, curriculum, events, materials and hands-on activities will introduce the Aerospace Fellows to Oklahoma’s aerospace industry with the following goals:
Motivate students to pursue math, science and technical educations
Educate teachers and counselors about employment opportunities for their students in the aerospace industry
Create partnerships among educators, industry and government
Encourage and implement aerospace curriculum in our common schools, career tech centers and colleges/universities
Create solutions to meet the workforce challenges of the Oklahoma aerospace industry
Create opportunities for life-long learning and professional development credit
Aerospace Education Fellows
Applications due March 30
Aerospace Education Fellows will be expected to:
Attend the June 24, 2008, evening reception at Tinker Air Force Base
Actively participate in the June 25, 2008, sessions at the Cox ConventionCenter
Share curriculum materials with fellow teachers in the 2008-2009 school year
Proactively develop aerospace educational activities at your school
Submit a six month progress report of curriculum implementation
Fellow scholarships will cover:
Scholarship of $100
Allowance of $100 if hotel is needed
Travel reimbursement
For teachers living 40 to 100 miles from Oklahoma City--$50
For teachers living more than 100 miles from Oklahoma City--$75
Selection of Fellows
:Public, private and career tech educators will be selected based on experience and diversity of location, grade level, and subject area. Aerospace Education Fellows will be selected by April 21. All applicants will be notified by e-mail regarding selection. Mentor an Oklahoma Teacher
Q. Who can be a volunteer mentor?
A. Anyone in your company can volunteer to mentor Oklahoma Teachers as part of the 7th Annual Oklahoma Aerospace Summit and Expo Education Day!
Q. What would I be expected to do if I mentored a teacher?
A. You are limited only by your own creativity. Here are few suggestions:

A. Your first opportunity would be to meet your teacher at the OK Aerospace Summit Education Day Welcome Reception – June 24, 2008 at 5: 30pm – 7:30pm at Tinker AFB Navy Hangar (59th St & Air Depot gate) and then attend the actual Education Day at the Cox Center on June 25, 2008 from 7:30-3:30 with your teacher.
